Better at Being Me

“I don’t want to swap back — I like being you,” said Jason (20), standing confidently in front of his former body.

“What?” said a shocked Michelle (41). “You’d rather stay in my older body than return to your young, carefree life?”

“Yeah,” Jason replied. “I like being you. It just feels right to me. I love wearing these clothes and high heels — I just feel really good.”

Michelle didn’t want to admit it, but that was a great outfit, and her hair looked amazing. Oh my God, she thought, he’s better at being me than I ever was.

“You’re married to my husband — and you have a kid,” she said, hoping that might change his mind.

“Your husband’s a laugh, and your kid’s off to university soon,” Jason said casually. “You’re not going to convince me to swap back. I’m sorry.”

Michelle left, certain that soon Jason would come begging to swap back.

But no — nearly a year later, Michelle sat alone in her small rented room, crying as she watched her old body and family on holiday in Spain. She couldn’t believe it. Jason was living her life, smiling beside her husband, laughing with her child.

How on earth was he not missing being a young, carefree guy?
