Totally Normal Tuesday

“This is stupid, Mum! How am I supposed to be you for a whole day? Do your job, go to your meetings—it’s never going to work. Can’t I just call in sick?” Demi groaned, plopping onto the edge of the bed. Her mother’s breasts bounced with the motion—far bigger than her own had ever been—and the sight only made her more uncomfortable.

“No,” Sarah snapped. “I have a big meeting today, and you need to be there. I’ll coach you on what to say in the car.” She frowned as she caught her daughter’s wide-eyed stare at her borrowed body.

“Stop touching me and get dressed,” Sarah added, her irritation growing.

“Fine,” Demi muttered with teenage attitude, tugging clothes from the wardrobe.

For Sarah, this entire freakish body-swap ordeal was unbearable. Why today, of all days? Her most important meeting of the year, and she was trapped in her daughter’s younger body. She couldn’t help but glance down, though, running her hand along the smooth skin of her arms. God, I do miss being young, she thought.

Demi returned, tugging on Sarah’s blazer. She gave a sarcastic smile. “Let’s just get this over with.”

The car ride was a nightmare. They bickered the entire way, each blaming the other for the mess. Neither mentioned the meeting, not once. By the time Demi arrived at the office, flustered and ill-prepared in Sarah’s body, it was already clear the day would be a disaster. Sarah would later wonder if simply calling in sick might have done less damage to her career.

The arguments didn’t stop there. Nearly a year later, the two were still at odds, barely speaking to each other. If only they had stopped fighting—if only they had tried to understand one another—they might have found a way to undo the swap.
